Cooking Classes

As you may already know, our restaurant “Roti Chapati” by Ruby’s Kitchen has been sold and we are currently looking for a new space to be the new permanent home of our cooking school.

Many of you who know us well, know that we’ve been running 2 businesses, a bakery/ take-out business as well as a cooking school for the past 4 years.  We decided late in 2014 that due to the amazing response and success we’ve had with our classes, that is was time to dedicate 100% towards developing the cooking school and we listed our restaurant for sale.

We did not expect such a quick transaction and the new owners of “Roti N Chapati Grill” have already taken over and made the place their own.  They have been gracious enough to allow us to run a few more classes in the month of February and there are some seats available. Unfortunately, our cooking school will be homeless for a short time until we can find a new solution and permanent home for Ruby’s Kitchen.

There will be no classes available for the month of March or April.

For those of you who have gift certificates and living social vouchers please email us with the details of your gift certificates and living social voucher numbers and we will notify you as soon as we’re set up in our new location.  We understand that although gift certificates have no expiry date, living social vouchers will expire at the end of March.  Every living social voucher holder who notifies us of their voucher number will be given an extension with ample time to book without penalty.

If you have any questions, have gift certificates or living social vouchers or simply would like to be notified when we’re back up and running please send us an email to:

We would like to thank all of our loyal customers for a great 4 years and we look forward to meeting you all again in our new location.

Looking for something different and exciting to do? We chose to visit Ruby’s Kitchen to celebrate my boyfriend’s 27th birthday…we were desperate for something that was affordable for our guests, but wasn’t the usual stand-by of visiting the local pub. Ruby’s was the perfect solution: it offered something refreshing, fun and intimate for our group of 10.

If the food doesn’t win you over, Ruby and her son Rahim certainly will! The pair offer a welcoming, friendly atmosphere for experienced chefs and take-out kings alike. Ruby instructed with such encouragement, charisma, and charming passion! Here’s a woman who not only knows her food, she LOVES her food and is happy to share interesting nutrition tid-bits as you go along.

The menu was great, and Ruby and Rahim made sure it was easy for us all to follow along. The end of the class had all 10 of us indulging in Indian delights that none of us would have imagined making on our own before.

Delicious and delightful, our visit to Ruby’s Kitchen will be talked about in the highest regard for a very long time. Can not wait to schedule our next visit!

A group of us decided to get together and do a cooking lesson for a birthday celebration. We were thrilled to find Ruby’s Kitchen – a one of it’s kind in Calgary. Ruby and Rahim were extremely welcoming and had some great goodies prepared for us upon arrival. I’ve been to other cooking schools in the city but was excited to learn that we would actually be cooking the recipes ourselves at this lesson – with the supervision of Ruby of course!

We were soon sitting down to some delicious handmade goodies – Samosa’s, Butter Chicken, Basmati Rice and some yummy Rice Pudding. It was really surprising how easy it all was to make, with the exception of the perfectly shaped Samosa! Ruby and her son provided us with such was a unique experience and I cannot wait to go back and learn some other impressive recipes. We had a great time and are anxious to impress our friends and family with our new skills.

Thank you so so much for everything.

Calgary Cooking Class Testimonial Review

I had a great time at Ruby’s kitchen mainly because of Ruby! She was extremely patient, had an outgoing personality and had some great cooking tips and tricks that she shared.

What I loved about the class was that there were freshly made snacks provided at the beginning of the class and that there were a lot of leftovers for us to bring home once we were done cooking. This experience was the real deal and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

I definitely look forward to popping in to try some of the different dishes and grabbing a bag of those fennel cookies!!! Yum.

Dear Rahim & Ruby,
I wanted to take a minute to thank you two so much for such a wonderful night on Saturday! The ladies had an amazing time, I have heard so many wonderful comments from them all!
Everyone felt so comfortable in Ruby’s kitchen, we hope you will have us back in the future for a samosa (sp?) class!
Thanks again for a very successful ladies night out!

- AmyCalgary Cooking Classes Review

Hi Rahim & Ruby,

I just wanted to let you know what a fantastic evening we had the other night.  I was thrilled when we entered the cooking class to see such a great workspace laid out so professionally before us.  All the tools and ingredients were clearly marked and placed so that I felt like I could make this kitchen my own instantly.  The atmosphere was fun and lively and immediately we felt at ease. And the evening just got better from there.  The appetizers were scrumptious and held us over beautifully.  (The coconut chutney was such a great combination with the falafels!)  The class was fun, educational and delicious!  We couldn’t stop talking on the way home with our friends about what a great time we had, nor in the days that followed.  The amount of food that we cooked fed us for a couple of days afterwards.  The instructions were clear and concise.  And despite the fact we were multi-tasking on a couple of meals at the same time, we kept pace without any issues.  My husband hasn’t cooked this much since we were married!
The chicken samosas were the best we have ever tasted and we made them!  I’m still amazed by this!  I credit the recipe and Ruby for the result.  Since we attended, I’ve haven’t stopped telling my co-workers, my family and my friends about the experience.  For the amount of food, the hands-on experience, the learning process and for just a different, out-of-the-ordinary night out with friends, we think this class was worth every penny.
You will be seeing us again.  And next time, I think there will be more joining us.

Thank again,

Rumi Neil

Thanks to  Ruby’s Kitchen for making our staff Christmas party such a hit.  Ruby was a very gracious host and we were all welcomed into her “home” with amazing food and hospitality.  Rahim was most accommodating with all of our requests that made for a very enjoyable experience.  We had a fabulous time thank you so much.  Karen
